Shapers and surf events highlight the surf hardgoods market at ASR September. San Juan Capistrano, CA (August 20, 2007) – Putting the spotlight on individuals who shape, create and innovate products to further surfing, ASR and SIMA have created a special area dedicated to the surf hardgoods market. Over 25 surfboard shapers and surfboard material producers have signed on to exhibit in the ASR/SIMA Board Builder’s Pavilion. The ASR/SIMA Board Builder’s Pavilion returns to ASR, September 7-9th in San Diego.
“The board building community is rallying around the Board Builder’s Pavilion concept at ASR and using it as a hub for strengthening the surf hardgoods market,” says Andy Tompkins, ASR Show Director. “We’re proud that the Pavilion is elevating and giving recognition to this vital part of the surf industry.” The expanded ASR/SIMA Board Builder’s Pavilion has grown to 6,600-square-feet, from its debut at ASR January. It will be centrally located, making it convenient for busy retailers and media to stop by. In the Pavilion, ASR attendees can learn more about the board building market and network in a relaxed environment.
“We were stoked on the response to the first Board Builder’s Pavilion last January and are excited to see the Pavilion return and become an integral part of the show floor,” said Bill Bahne, Chairman of SIMA’s Board Builders Special Interest Group. “The Pavilion is a valuable tool for the board building community to showcase their products to retailers, and to highlight the creativity and innovation being seen in this crucial segment of the surf industry.”
New editions to the Pavilion include Brewer Surfboards, U.M. Surfboards and Marbella Surfboards. Steve Boysen Surfboards will return with an expanded booth for September along with Linden, Bessell and Aviso. Board building suppliers such as Bennett Foam and Austin Foam Cores are providing new solutions to some of the industry issues following the 2005 closure of Clark Foam.
Special events centered around surfboard building will be based in the Pavilion to benefit charity. Reef’s Board Build-Off returns to ASR in September with a solid line up of seven talented shapers, who are creating one-of-a-kind boards to be auctioned off at ASR. Liquid Tribe is holding a silent auction in the Pavilion, featuring unique prize packages from throughout the industry. Both auctions will raise money for 13 surf-related social and humanitarian non-profit organizations selected by the SIMA Humanitarian Fund.
Ross Garrett, Publisher of Surfing Magazine, the Pavilion’s media sponsor says, “The ASR/SIMA Board Builder Pavilion is a great place for us to start the magazine’s new “Year of the Shaper” campaign and demonstrate our support of the shaping community.”
