ASR Shifts Dates to Best Service the Industry’s Evolving Needs
October 03, 2007
Event dates adjust to a Thursday-Saturday schedule starting January 2008. San Juan Capistrano, CA (October 3, 2007) – Action Sports Retailer Expo, ASR, is shifting the dates of select future events to best meet the industry’s collective needs. Starting in January 2008, ASR events will primarily run from Thursday-Saturday, instead of the traditional Friday-Sunday format. Working with industry partners, exhibitors and retailers, ASR chose the new timing to better facilitate business and for the convenience of show attendees.

“We’re always looking for ways to make ASR the most productive 3-days in the action sports industry,” says Andy Tompkins, ASR Show Director. “The industry as a whole responded well to a Thursday-Saturday format at the January 2007 event. We’ve listened to the feedback and have worked with our customers to make ASR dates more conducive to busy schedules.”

The Thursday-Saturday format will satisfy the growing need of retail buyers to accomplish their business goals during the workweek. By retaining one weekend day, retailers who can only leave their shops on the weekend can still benefit from ASR’s efficient buying opportunity.

The shifting of dates is endorsed by SIMA and IASC, the two main industry manufacturer associations. “This is a good example of how association partners can help trade show producers navigate the business landscape effectively,” says Joel Cooper, SIMA trade show committee chairman.

January and September in San Diego will shift to the new Thursday-Saturday schedule in 2008. All September shows will run on the new days into the foreseeable future. At the present time, January 2009 and 2010 will remain Friday-Sunday due to conflicting scheduled events at the San Diego Convention Center.

Future dates:
ASR January 2008        January 24 (Thurs.) - 26 (Sat.)
ASR September 2008        September 4 (Thurs.) - 6 (Sat.)
ASR January 2009        January 23 (Fri.) – 25 (Sun.)
